We suppose you could ask, “What is a behavioral psychologist doing in the loyalty marketing field?” The answer would be, “Quite a lot, actually.” Being able to analyze consumer behavior is invaluable when your goal is to provide insight as to why consumers do this, but not that; or why consumers like one product but go absolutely crazy over another, seemingly similar, product. Understanding the “why” motivation behind the choices consumers make can keep a behavioral psychologist very busy, and entertained, for a long time. Of course, in order to apply what you’ve learned you need to understand the whole consumer/loyalty relationship and we consider Marc our resident expert on that. You’ve got to be able to experience what the consumer experiences, so it’s the more difficult side of Marc’s job, as president of The Mallett Group, to fly around the country, meet our clients, stay at some of the most luxurious hotels, entertain in some of the finest establishments and experience what those loyalty rewards programs actually do provide the consumer when they make the decision to engage.
